A thousand years of capitals, one unhurried road

Morocco moved its capital the way other kingdoms moved court painters — and each move left a complete city behind. Fes keeps the deepest medina on earth; Meknes, Moulay Ismail's gates and granaries with Roman Volubilis in the next valley; Rabat, the elegant working capital on the Atlantic; Marrakech, the theatre of the south. Seeing all four is the classic Morocco route for a reason.

Done by train and taxi it becomes a logistics project. Done privately it becomes simple: one driver holds your luggage, your schedule and the road while you walk each medina. Days start when you're ready; the road picks up Volubilis, the Rif viewpoints and lunch towns the trains never see.

Circuits start at any airport — most begin with a CMN meet-and-greet — and end wherever you fly out. Hotels remain your choice at your budget; we recommend riads we trust and book nothing you haven't seen priced.

Read every answer
01What are Morocco's four Imperial Cities?

Fes, Marrakech, Meknes and Rabat — each a former capital of a Moroccan dynasty. Fes keeps the medieval medina, Marrakech the showmanship, Meknes the monumental gates (with Roman Volubilis next door), and Rabat the working royal capital by the Atlantic.

02How much does a private Imperial Cities tour cost?

Per vehicle: a 3-day Casablanca–Rabat–Fes tour from 4,000 MAD, the classic 4-day circuit from 5,200 MAD, and 5 days including Chefchaouen from 6,500 MAD — covering your private vehicle, English-speaking driver, fuel and tolls. Hotels stay in your hands (we recommend gladly), so you set the comfort level.

03How many days do the Imperial Cities need?

Four days is the honest minimum for all four capitals with Volubilis; five adds Chefchaouen without rushing. With only three days, do Casablanca, Rabat and Fes properly rather than all four at a sprint.

04Do you provide licensed city guides inside the medinas?

Yes — your driver handles the roads and logistics; for the Fes and Marrakech medinas we arrange licensed local guides (about 300–400 MAD per half day), which is both the law for guided visits and genuinely worth it in Fes.

05Can the tour start at Casablanca Airport?

That's the classic format: your driver meets your flight at CMN with a name sign and the circuit starts rolling — no hotel transfer, no day lost. It can end at any airport: Marrakech (RAK) and Fes (FEZ) are the usual exits.

Four capitals. One message.
