The Sahara, on your own schedule

Every desert trip from Marrakech is really a road trip — over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, past Ait Ben Haddou's mud-brick kasbah, down valleys lined with a thousand kasbahs. On a shared minibus that road is a blur with two toilet stops. With your own driver it becomes the tour itself: you stop for the photograph, the pottery co-op, the proper lunch.

We run the three classic desert formats privately: the Agafay's stone desert for travellers with one evening, Zagora's palm-fringed dunes for a two-day taste, and Merzouga's Erg Chebbi — the real 150-metre Sahara — for the full three-day experience with a camel trek and a night in a camp under more stars than seem reasonable.

Prices are per vehicle, in writing, with the camp level you choose quoted in the same message. Circuits can run one-way — Marrakech to the dunes and out to Fes — so the desert sits in the middle of your Morocco route, not a detour from it.

Read every answer
01How much does a private desert tour from Marrakech cost?

Per vehicle — not per person: an Agafay day trip from 1,200 MAD, a 2-day Zagora tour from 3,000 MAD, and a 3-day Merzouga tour from 4,500 MAD, including your private 4x4 or minivan, an English-speaking driver, fuel and tolls. Desert-camp nights and camel treks are arranged with trusted camps and quoted in the same written price.

02Zagora or Merzouga — which desert should I choose?

Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) has the postcard Sahara: 150-metre golden dunes, best with three days. Zagora is stony desert with smaller dunes but fits two days. Short on time? The Agafay stone desert delivers a real camp dinner and sunset just 45 minutes from Marrakech.

03Is the drive to Merzouga hard?

It's long but spectacular: about 9 hours from Marrakech, broken over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, Ait Ben Haddou's kasbah and the Dades or Draa valleys. A private tour turns the drive into the tour — you stop where the view demands it.

04What's included in the desert camp night?

Standard camps include dinner, breakfast and private tents with proper bedding; luxury camps add en-suite bathrooms and heating in winter. Camel treks to the camp at sunset are the classic arrival. We quote the camp level you choose in the same written price.

05Can the tour end in Fes instead of returning to Marrakech?

Yes — Merzouga sits between the two, and finishing in Fes (about 7 hours north) saves a full day of backtracking. One-way desert crossings Marrakech → Merzouga → Fes are one of our most-booked private circuits.
