Petit taxis: the city workhorses
Petit taxis are small, colour-coded city cars — red in Casablanca, beige in Marrakech, blue in Rabat — limited to three passengers and to journeys inside city limits. They are metered by law: expect a 7–8 MAD minimum and most cross-town rides at 15–50 MAD. The only rule that matters: make sure the meter runs. A cheerful 'compteur, s'il vous plaît' settles it; if it doesn't, take the next one.

Grand taxis: shared and intercity
Grand taxis — traditionally old Mercedes, now often Dacia vans — run fixed suburban and intercity routes on a per-seat basis and leave when full. They are the budget intercity option locals use; prices are low (a seat between nearby cities is often 20–60 MAD) but you trade comfort, luggage space and timetable certainty. Chartering the whole car ('course') is possible and negotiated up front.
Airport taxi prices: where the meter disappears
Airport ranks work on quoted rates rather than meters. From Mohammed V (CMN) into Casablanca expect 300–400 MAD cash; Marrakech Menara into the medina commonly quotes 70–150 MAD daytime and more at night; similar patterns hold at Fes, Tangier and Agadir. None of it is in writing, all of it is negotiated at the kerb with your luggage in hand — which is precisely why pre-booked fixed-price transfers exist: from 650 MAD per vehicle at CMN, from 300 MAD at RAK, agreed before you fly.

- Metered city rides — round up to the next 5 MAD; nobody expects more.
- Help with luggage or a hotel find — 5–10 MAD is generous.
- A private driver for an airport transfer — tips are appreciated, never required; 20–50 MAD for a good run is warm.
- A driver for a full day — 50–100 MAD reflects a day well driven.
